What certificates are required in importing milk to Vietnam?
According to state documents of Vietnam (ND 15/2018/ND-CP), when importing fresh milk, importers need to register of the product declaration and state inspection of food hygiene and safety. Summary of the fresh milk import process:
Step 1: Complete the purchase and transportation contract.
Step 2: If a sample is not available, import a sample for food safety testing. If a sample is available in Vietnam, take the sample for testing.
Step 3: After obtaining the testing results, allow the shipment to enter and submit the product declaration to the regulatory authority.
Step 4: Once the shipment arrives at the port/airport, complete customs clearance and submit the acceptance certificate of the declared product issued by the regulatory authority.
Step 5: After successful customs clearance, retrieve the goods and transport them to the warehouse.

Label for milk imported to Vietnam
According to current stipulation, cargo imported into Vietnam need to have sufficient label
Imported goods need to be fully labeled according to current regulations.
Goods labels must show the following contents:
a) Name of goods;
b) Name and address of the organization or individual responsible for the goods;
c) Origin of goods;
d) Other contents according to the nature of each type of goods
In addition, with copper drinks, the label requires additional information:
a) Quantitative;
b) Date of manufacture;
c) Expiry date;
d) Composition or ingredient quantity;
d) Warning information;
e) Instructions for use, instructions for preservation.
Duties, Taxes on importing milk to Vietnam
When importing milk to Vietnam, the importer needs to pay import duty and value added tax (VAT).
VAT on milk: 8%
Preferential import duty on milk:
- HS code 0401: 15%
- HS code 0402: 2-5%
- HS code 2202: 20 – 30%
